How to Add an AI Voiceover to Canva Videos

Updated September 3, 2026

TL;DR: generate the voiceover in LeapFun (free to start, mastered MP3 out), import the file into Canva, drop it on the timeline under your clips, trim to the cuts, export. Ten minutes end to end. Menu names below follow Canva's current desktop layout and may differ slightly by version and platform.

Step by step

  1. Write the script and pick a voicePaste the script into LeapFun Text to Speech, choose a voice — narration, ads, social or educational — and tap a card to hear a real sample first.
  2. Generate and downloadGenerate, listen, re-take if needed, then download the MP3. Every export is loudness-mastered to -14 LUFS / 48 kHz, so it sits at platform loudness without a mixing pass.
  3. Upload the audio to CanvaIn your Canva video design open Uploads in the left panel, upload the MP3, then find it under the Audio tab of Uploads.
  4. Place it on the timelineClick or drag the audio onto the design; it appears as an audio track under the pages. Drag its ends to set where it starts and stops, and split the track at page boundaries if a page runs long.
  5. Balance volume and exportOpen the audio's volume control to sit the voice above any background music, use fade in/out at the edges, then Share → Download as MP4.

Frequently asked questions

Does Canva have its own AI voiceover?

Canva offers some voice tools, but generating in LeapFun gives you a wider choice of voices, a mastered file and the ability to re-take a single line without redoing the design. Use whichever fits the job; the import steps above work for any MP3.

Can I use the voiceover in a client's Canva video?

Yes on a paid LeapFun plan, which includes commercial usage rights. The free tier is for personal and evaluation use.

The voice starts before the page changes — how do I fix it?

Either lengthen the page to the duration of the audio segment, or split the audio track at the page boundary and drag the second part onto the next page.

What format should I upload?

MP3 from LeapFun works directly. WAV also uploads but is larger; there is no quality reason to prefer it for a Canva export.
