Before you record
- A quiet room with soft surfaces — a closet with clothes or a car parked in a garage beats a kitchen.
- A phone or USB mic held steady 15–20 cm from your mouth; no laptop mic across the desk.
- A paragraph to read that sounds like your content: narration for a narrator, a talk-track for a creator channel.
- The plan: cloning slots begin on Starter ($6 a month, 1 voice), with 10 on Creator and 30 on Pro and Team.
Step by step
- Record the sampleRead at your natural pace, one take, no music, no processing. Record two or three candidates in the same session.
- Upload and confirm consentIn Voice Cloning, upload the file and confirm the voice is yours or that you have the speaker's permission. The confirmation is stored with the clone.
- AuditionGenerate the same paragraph with each candidate. Listen on headphones and on a phone speaker; keep the best and delete the rest.
- Use it everywhereThe clone appears under My Voices: pick it in Text to Speech, or assign it as narrator or a character in Audiobook Studio. Every export is loudness-mastered.
Getting it closer to you
- If it sounds thin, re-record closer to the mic in a deader room; length rarely fixes timbre.
- On Ultra voices, add a director's note ("warm, unhurried, slight smile") to steer delivery without changing the timbre.
- Add pronunciation rules in Studio for the names and terms you say most.
- Match the sample's energy to the job: a calm read clones calm.
What you can and can't clone

Yes. Clones read English and Chinese; record the sample in whichever language you'll mostly use, and the timbre carries to the other.

Add a pronunciation rule in a Studio project — an alias respelling works on every voice tier — and it applies to every chapter.
Can I delete the sample later?
Yes. Remove the voice under My Voices and the stored sample goes with it.
