LeapFun vs Descript: Narration Source vs Editor

Updated October 2, 2026

Short version: These two do different jobs and many creators use both. Descript is an editor: you record, it transcribes, and you cut video and audio by editing the text, with AI speech available to patch a line or voice a script. LeapFun is a narration source: you paste a script and get finished, mastered audio with subtitle files. Pick Descript if you edit your own recordings. Pick LeapFun if the narration itself is the product, especially long scripts and other languages.

LeapFun Creator$19$15.83200,000 credits, about 200 minutes on standard voices, 10 cloned voices, unlimited Studio projects

The two are not priced on the same unit. Descript sells editing hours plus a pool of AI credits that speech, dubbing, Studio Sound and its AI editor all draw from, and it does not publish how many minutes of speech a plan yields. LeapFun sells script characters at a rate shown next to each voice. If narration is most of what you generate, LeapFun's price is knowable in advance; if narration is a small part of an editing workflow, Descript's bundle may be the better deal.

Frequently asked questions

Is Descript a text-to-speech tool?

Partly. Descript's core is editing recordings as text; its AI Speech feature generates narration from stock voices or a custom clone, metered by AI credits shared with its other AI features.

Which has more languages, LeapFun or Descript?

LeapFun's Leap Ultra voices read 130+ languages. Descript's help page lists 19 languages for text to speech and its marketing says 20+.

Can I clone my voice on Descript?

Yes, from the Hobbyist plan. Descript requires the speaker to read a recorded consent statement in English first. LeapFun's cloning starts on the $6 Starter plan, also with consent recorded.

Is LeapFun cheaper than Descript?

For narration, LeapFun's Starter is $6 and Creator $19 against Descript's $24 and $35 monthly. The products are priced on different units, so compare on the job: editing hours versus minutes of generated narration.

Can I use LeapFun audio in Descript?

Yes. Export WAV or MP3 from LeapFun and import it into a Descript project like any recording.

When should I not choose LeapFun?

When you edit your own recordings, need filler-word removal or Studio Sound, or dub video. Descript does those and LeapFun does not.
