Speechify Review (2026): The Reader and the Studio

Updated October 2, 2026

Short version: Speechify is two products that share a name. The reader app is a strong way to listen to documents and articles, with 1,000+ voices in 60+ languages on Premium, but its terms say the output is not for commercial use. Speechify Studio is the creator product: voiceover, dubbing and avatars, with commercial rights on paid plans and a low price per minute, sold with yearly prices and a free tier that cannot download. Judge the one you would actually buy. We make a competing product, so this page sticks to what Speechify publishes.

The reader app

Speechify's home page calls itself a voice AI layer across every device and claims 60M+ users. The free plan reads at up to 1.5x with 10 basic voices. Premium, at $29 a month, adds 1,000+ natural voices, 60+ languages, listening at up to 5x, scanning printed pages, AI summaries and chat, and cloud-drive integrations.

Speechify Studio

Studio's page calls it an all-in-one voice and video shop: voiceover, AI dubbing and an AI video studio. Plans are Studio Starter at $100 a year and Studio Creator at $300 a year, with a free tier of 600 credits.

If your work is long-form narration

LeapFun is built for the last two rows: scripts live in a Studio project as chapters and paragraphs, a late edit is a one-paragraph re-take, every export is loudness-mastered with subtitle files, voices read 130+ languages on Leap Ultra, and commercial rights start at $6 a month. The trade-offs: a smaller voice library, no video dubbing, no streaming API.

Frequently asked questions

Is Speechify worth it?

For listening to your own reading, the reader app is a strong product. For creating voiceovers, Speechify Studio offers a low price per minute on a yearly plan. Decide which of the two you mean before judging the price.

Is Speechify free?

The reader app has a free plan with 10 basic voices at up to 1.5x speed. Speechify Studio has a free tier of 600 credits, but downloading to MP3 needs a paid plan.

Can I use Speechify for YouTube videos?

With a paid Speechify Studio plan, yes: it includes commercial usage rights. Reader app audio is not intended for commercial use, per Speechify's terms.

What is the difference between Speechify and Speechify Studio?

The reader converts documents into audio for you to listen to. Studio creates voiceovers, dubbing and avatar video for you to publish. Speechify's pricing page states they are two different subscriptions.

What are the main drawbacks of Speechify?

Two separate subscriptions, non-commercial reader output, yearly-only Studio prices on its pricing page, no downloads on the Studio free tier, and no chapter-based workflow that we could find.

What is a good Speechify alternative for publishing narration?

LeapFun: a chapter-based Studio, paragraph re-takes, mastered exports with subtitles, monthly billing from $6 with commercial rights. It has no reader app and no dubbing.
